Nanoscale Mechanics, Bio-inspired Hierarchical Structures, and Potential Applications

George Schatz is the Morrison Professor of Chemistry at Northwestern University, and member of NU's Materials Research Center, BIMAT and NSEC Centers. He received his B. S. from Clarkson University in 1971 and his Ph.D. from Caltech in 1976. He has been at Northwestern since 1976, with research specializing in computational and theoretical chemistry, including applications to the optical and mechanical properties of materials, to chemical reaction rate important in atmospheric and combustion chemistry, and to the structural properties of DNA. Schatz is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Physical Chemistry, and is a Fellow of the AAAS and APS, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and of the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science. He has published 380 papers and three books.
